I've had this electric company for a while and over the past year things have gotten bad. So, we set up a move date and instead of actually following the guidelines that when we were supposed to move, they switched the electric count a whole month ahead of time and so we ended up paying a large fee with our apartments. For some reason, they did not update our address or even bother to contact us to confirm what they were doing. Now again, they turned on electric and started a payment plan in our old address with someone else paying the bill in our name. Instead of asking why we had electric services in two different cities. We got informed that in 30 days our electric should be set straight but I kind of feel like it's going to be messed up again because obviously they have no clue what they're doing.

Advertisement Updated 4 days agoI used Direct Energy as my 3rd party power supplier until I recently moved. I was shocked to just receive a Collection letter from Direct stating I owed them money because my Ulility had not paid them, even though my utility company stated I have a zero balance.
I have spent countless hours on the phone attempting to get accountablity for this alleged unpaid bill that Direct states goes back to Nov.-Dec of last year.
In keeping with their business model for falsely sending me to collections, their best written explanation was, "since I never received an invoice, they're writing it off.
HUH, what. Talk about reinventing the truth, they NEVER billed me as a 3rd party supply customer, they always directly billed my utility company. There aughta' be a law against their scorched earth disrespect for customers.
So, to follow up. I reported them to my state PUC for their shoot from the hip actions, who forced Direct Energy to admit they accidently omitted submitting 1 monthly supply side statement to my Utility company last winter, and despite their sloppy accounting, they decided the best solution was to randomly send me to a Collection agency for $35. I've NEVER not paid a bill on time, in full or received a collection co. bill in my 72 years!
After forcing them to do so, I've gotten an insincere letter of apology for the mistake they made, and although I trust them as far as I can throw them, also written acknowledgement from them and Torres that this innacurate, yet damaging information has been deleted from their accounts. Their ruthless actions and lack of accountability have caused great distress, and although I immediately paid the bill, if it hadn't happened to me, I would never believe that such a large corporation could be so imcompetent.

Aug 6, 2024They give you a really good rate to sign up and when you receive your first bill, it is double what they tell. When calling customer service, they said sorry we can't do anything about.
After canceling my service one month in, they still charge me $150 cancellation fee. DO NOT USE Direct Energy!!

Jul 31, 2024A complete scam of a company. They scammed me into their services. Their Walmart representative assured me over and over again that I would not be signing up for their services and this was only for me to take advantage of a deal they had. After disputing this FOR MONTHS with Direct Energy, they admitted to knowing about this scam but still insist on charging me. I will never ever use Direct Energy and will scream it from the rooftops on the scam that this company is.

Advertisement Updated Jul 26, 2024I guess they hire these unlucky low wage minorities to do their dirty work and go door-to-door with this script: "You pay your AEP bill online or by mail? Can you check your bill to make sure you're not getting a surcharge?" Guy didn't even tell me who he works for until I finally asked him. I'm not stupid. I know these energy wholesalers' con game and when I said to him before slamming the door, "I'm good", he fired off like rote ready reply "Yeah you good, bro?" Right. His south central L.A. attitude reared its head all of a sudden when he saw I wasn't buying what he's selling. He seemed ready for that cold reception. He seemed well-practiced with my reaction. Go figure.

Jun 12, 2024Awful customer service, asked to be notified of bills via email, and they don't.
Tried to discussed things with them several times and nothing changes even though they agree over the phone, they can't find you in their system half the time so you waste multiple calls trying to sort anything out

May 9, 2024These CLOWNS continue to call me DAILY, despite my multiple efforts to discontinue the calls. They have my phone number, but someone else's account. I can't chose zero or negative stars or I would. This company is a total clown show. Everyone l've talked to insists they will fix the issue yet it persists.

Read 1 more review about Direct Energy Jun 6, 2024Id give 0 stars if possible. Their billing system had a “glitch” and wouldn't recognize my payment. I have been trying to have my bill corrected four months now and have had four hour long fruitless phone calls. This is the most untrustworthy company I have ever known. Do not trust them. Do not give them your business. I have reported them to the BBB and I suggest everyone else having issues with them do the same.

Jun 21, 2024I had signed up for the cheaper three year rate put forward by Danielle Smith. What I didn’t know, is that Direct Energy was going to close my account and set up a new one. Because I had an amount owing above the pre authorized payment because of the stupid rate. I planned on paying the $1200 off by paying $300 a month till it was gone. All the while paying my new bill as well. I phoned, they said I have to pay it all within 10 days or it goes to collections. They said they will take my $300 now, but my remaining payments will be to the collection agency. Why couldn’t they let me pay my bill? I’m just peeved and need to vent.

Advertisement Jun 9, 2024How these corporations can get away with fraud in Alberta is beyond belief. The Alberta energy board should be looking into this company, its subsidiaries and its deceptive sales people.
I have been a great long-term customer and they closed my account at the instruction of an Atco gas fraudulent sales person. When I contacted to explain that I was just shopping around for rates they said there was nothing they could do about it. They charged me to close the account, pay out the year (from June 1st) and reopen it. Turns out they are owned under the same corporation. So they are basically scamming customers by closing and reopening accounts with each other without the customers permission. This should be illegal and investigated. I explained to them that they have the phone recordings of my call, and then it proves that I never signed up, however, the manager at direct energy said he couldn’t do anything about it. Seriously!?

Feb 14, 2024Most dishonest power provider in Alberta. They have hidden charges which are in amount of $800 to $900 which they charge when you plan to get rid of them and switch to another provider. Please refrain from direct energy if you wanna save some money in this kind of high inflation time.

Jan 9, 2024December 23, 2023 Tarendeep was the original agent who helped me sign up for electricity and made switching services easy as eating pie. Kudos to Tarendeep!
January 09, 2024 Then I made a phone call and got Jose, he helped me confirm that everything was a go. At the risk of being accessed of being "racist" he spoke fluent English and understood everything I was saying to him which made the call smooth like butter.
I am a born English speaking Canadian and this was a serious treat for me to be understood and experience excellent customer service.
Kudos to Jose‼️ 😎

Dec 15, 2023I've been on the phone about 10 hours trying to get electricity turned on. I've had 3 new accounts set up for the same address in two days, talked to literally 9 people. Finally yesterday scheduled Monday (I started this Wednesday and was told Wednesday it would be on that day). Got an email "You authorized Direct Energy to start electricity service at ## on 12/28/2023". today is the 15th

Advertisement May 16, 2023I was called and notified by these robbers that I would be charged a $295 cancellation fee. Well, we’ll see about that. I switched to TXU because I could never connect to the Direct Energy app due to their terrible platform. This after I finally connected and spoke to the highest level of their tech department; and they were unable to remedy the situation. There are other electric utilities that serve TX. IF YOU’RE SMART, stay away from Direct Energy.

Nov 5, 2022So I didn't go through direct Energy, I had a broker named United Energy pick it out and it is stellar. I started it for my business in August last year and my rate is fixed at 8 cents while neighbors are paying 12 cents. So if you do pick a Direct energy try going through a broker named United Energy cause they make life much easier.

Jan 18, 2024They suck!
Pushing sales people promise you that you will pay less then the current provider whice end up bring the opposite and end up paying for both of the providers when changed to direct energy. When I called to customer service and told them that they lie about the amounts promised they don't really care and saying you agreed to it all!
Stay away! I wish I read the reviews before.
